Hello faithful listeners! This week, Dave and Carol are very excited to welcome Antonio to the podcast. Antonio is a Spanish artist finishing up a year working in the US. He’s a lifelong football fan, and got the chance to go see the Cascadia Derby. He joins the show to talk to us about his experience at CenturyLink, as well as what football is like in Spain, and what they think of Americans out there. Also, we got some listener comments. Have at thee!
It’s World Cup Qualifying! The USMNT lost this week to Costa Rica, which puts them in an entertaining (terrifying) position heading into the last three Hex games. Dave and Carol talk about what to expect out of the team for the rest of the year. Also, what happened to the Chicago Fire? What makes a great goal scorer? And is TFC the best team MLS has ever produced? All this and more this week!
Let’s not bury the lede… you’re all here to see SCOTT STERLING!!!!
And then here’s a whole bunch of articles from MLSSoccer.com, starting with Matt Doyle on the Chicago Fire’s collapse (among other topics):
This is more like it. Let’s have a show before the weekend rather than after for once. This week, Dave and Carol take a deep dive into NYCFC’s stadium situation. Also, they take a look at whether or not the league would ever get fed up with the team sharing a stadium with the Yankees, and allow them to move to a different city. Then, what do charter flights have to do with the league, and how could they be important in the next CBA negotiations? All this and more!
Here’s a look at why NYCFC fans expect more long-distance “home” games:
Hey all! We’re back! Perhaps, slightly delayed, but hey, and eclipse certainly demands it’s own time. This week Dave and Carol dive into VAR, and whether or not Kaka’s red card was deserved. Then we take a look at some recent attempts to get MLS to adopt promotion and relegation. Finally, Pablo Mastreoni was fired by the Rapids. Was it the right move, and who’s next on the hot seat? All this and more on this week’s episode!
It’s August, and Carol’s back in the studio! Yays! This week, we have a short moment with friend-of-the-show Sam to talk about computer stuff that is frankly above Dave’s head. Then we break down All-Star games, coaching changes, and the beginning of VAR. Is the game gonna be better for this? Take a listen and find out.
It’s lonely out here today. Today Dave takes the mic alone to discuss some of the news of the week. The US won the Gold Cup! Also, there was a blockbuster trade between SKC and Orlando, but it leave’s Dave a little confused. And finally, he gets to the fantastic questions submitted by you, our dear listeners. Enjoy!
Hey, guess what! Turns out our studio has a phone line that we could use. Carol jumped on the line from off in the wilderness to this week to join Dave and friend-of-the-show Sam to talk about a crazy game in Seattle. Then they delve into the Gold Cup a bit before discussing the right and wrong ways to build a rivalry. We also asked for questions from you guys, and boy did you guys come through. However, we didn’t actually get to any of them this week. So next week, we’ll get to those. In the meantime, enjoy Episode 51!
Here’s the article from Outsports about the former player going the first Atlanta United game with his partner:
Hey guys! You probably noticed there was no show last week. Well, there were a few reasons for that. Partly, Dave was lazy and never got around to booking a co-host with Carol out of town. But mostly there’s just not a whole lot of MLS news in lieu of the Gold Cup break. Anyway, Dave is making point of recording this week come hell or high-water. But he needs your help. Namely, he needs your questions. Is there anything you’d like to know? Are there any bits of the game that you were curious about, but never knew who to ask? Hell, you could even ask Dave his opinion of movies or something. This is wide open.
So post your questions in one of the three following places:
Hey guys! It’s Episode 50! Can you believe it!? This week Dave’s joined by special guest… Carol! Turns out that she managed to carve out some time to record before disappearing for the month, and she wasn’t gonna miss out on Episode 50. Carol and Dave reflect on what it’s been like doing 50 shows. Then they discuss Garth Lagerway’s comments about the Supporter’s Shield. Also, is the power dynamic in the league moving to the Eastern Conference? And finally, what does Dom Kinnear’s firing say about the old guard of MLS coaches? Thanks again for listening, and here’s to the next 50 shows.
Turns out Dave couldn’t find the podcast with two guys talking in the car during the commute. If you know what it is, let us know so we can give them a shout-out.
Here’s the Sounder at Heart follow up interview with Garth Lagerway, which also features the original interview on Radio Cascadia. The quote comes at around the 28 minute mark of the show.
Hello again! Carol was off on a secret mission this week infiltrating the Timbers Army, so Dave was joined by friend of the show Tyson. They talked a bit about a rare case of soccer hooliganism for good. Then they dove into an interesting report about some potential rule changes to the game. They break down the ideas thrown out by IFAB, and give their takes as to what would work and what wouldn’t. What rule changes do you think would work out? What rule change would you suggest if you could? Let us know in the comments. We’ll be going dark next week, but we’ll be back in two weeks. Until then, enjoy!
Here’s the story on Fuck You I’m Millwall English Bitter. Once again, if you can get a bottle to send to Dave, send him a DM on twitter and he’ll let you know where to send it.
And finally, here’s a video of what the MLS Penalty kicks looked like in the 90’s. I’m not sure what my favorite part of this is. The absurd style of kick, the absurd kits the Galaxy and the Wiz (yes, the Kansas City Wiz) were wearing, or the fantastic hair sported by current Sounders GM Garth Lagerway. Enjoy!
