Hello again! Carol was off on a secret mission this week infiltrating the Timbers Army, so Dave was joined by friend of the show Tyson. They talked a bit about a rare case of soccer hooliganism for good. Then they dove into an interesting report about some potential rule changes to the game. They break down the ideas thrown out by IFAB, and give their takes as to what would work and what wouldn’t. What rule changes do you think would work out? What rule change would you suggest if you could? Let us know in the comments. We’ll be going dark next week, but we’ll be back in two weeks. Until then, enjoy!
Here’s the story on Fuck You I’m Millwall English Bitter. Once again, if you can get a bottle to send to Dave, send him a DM on twitter and he’ll let you know where to send it.
And finally, here’s a video of what the MLS Penalty kicks looked like in the 90’s. I’m not sure what my favorite part of this is. The absurd style of kick, the absurd kits the Galaxy and the Wiz (yes, the Kansas City Wiz) were wearing, or the fantastic hair sported by current Sounders GM Garth Lagerway. Enjoy!
Is Dave a robot? Sometime Carol wonders. This is one of the many questions we (soccer) tackle on this week’s thrilling episode. Also, we dive into Michael Bradly’s goal against Mexico, and whether or not it’s the greatest goal in USMNT history. Also, there seems to be shenanigans going on with a deal between US Soccer and MLS, and Carol is not happy about it. Here about this and more this week!
First, and most important, does Memo Ochoa have the best hair in football?
Secondly, Here’s the Nike 2014 World Cup ad Dave was mentioning:
Here’s the 5 best goals in USMNT history, according to CBS Sports. Dave says they’re wrong.
If you’re seeing this and you’re exciting to be hearing a two part episode of the show, I hate to disappoint you. This is just a stand alone show. Hopefully we can make it up to you by directing you to the movie catalogue of the brilliant Mel Brooks. Trust us, your life will be better for perusing those. As for the show, this week Dave and Carol discuss the History of U.S. Soccer, all the way back the Pilgrims… no really. Also, a heartbreaking story about a little girl whose team was disqualified from a tournament because some idiots thought she was a boy. Enjoy!
Hey guys! We’re gonna try something new this week. We putting out a call for derby names from listeners. Here’s the slate of games coming up this week. Give a name to one of these match-ups, and we’ll choose the best to use on the show (with a call out for you). Contact us on twitter, Facebook, or just in the comments section below.
It’s the international break, so there’s not much happening, but here are the three games available:
Chicago Fire vs Atlanta United – Sat. 4:00 pm Eastern
Sporting KC vs Montreal Impact – Sat. 8:00 pm Eastern
Portland Timbers vs. FC Dallas – Sat. 10:30 pm Eastern
And just for shits and giggles, how about a name for the ultimate derby:
Mexico vs. U.S.A – Sun. 8:30 Eastern
If you’re feeling particularly ambitious, throw out a prediction as well. Why do you all show Dave how it’s done.
You know what we don’t talk about enough on this show? Clothes. Specifically, shirt sponsors. Dave and Carol this week break down their feelings on shirt sponsors around the league. They also answer the question of whether or not a shirt sponsor can affect a person’s buying decisions. Also, they break down a fascinatingly crazy game between Vancouver and DC. Enjoy!
Wait… Don Cheadle on Captain Planet? Well… sort of:
